3 Addicting Game Apps You Need To Download Now

By Kaitlin Hurtado on August 27, 2016

Game apps and addiction often go hand in hand — just look at the launch of Pokémon Go and the craze that followed.

The seemingly endless amount of game apps available in the App Store are perfect for waiting in a doctor’s office or treating yourself to a much-needed study break.

When Pokémon Go isn’t an option — it’s not always convenient to go hunting for Pokémon at 4 a.m. — here are game apps that are equally addictive and guaranteed to have you tapping and swiping your time away.

Best Fiends

Much like Candy Crush Saga (and its spin-offs: Candy Crush Soda Saga and Candy Crush Jelly Saga), Best Fiends is puzzle game app focusing on matching items while completing missions. Unlike Candy Crush, however, Best Fiends follows a more developed storyline as players can collect (and level up) different “Fiends” to create a team and move along levels.

There are five different categories/colors of Fiends, with each individual Fiend possessing a power that grows stronger when leveled up. Players can build up their own personal winning team to pass levels to rescue all Fiends. Best Fiends is a relatively new game — it’s constantly updating with new levels and features — and serves as promising procrastination material.

Cookie Run

Cookie Run is another game app featuring a developed storyline with episodes and missions to complete. Rather than resembling a puzzle, its gameplay is more of an ‘adventure,’ as the game app requires players to tap to jump, slide, and run through courses.

The plot of the game app focuses on the user’s journey to save the fictional Cookie Kingdom through various missions set in six episodes/courses. Each course varies in design and difficulty, only becoming more challenging as the player progresses through the courses filled with obstacles.

Players work to unlock different Cookies, pets, and treasures to create high-scoring combinations as they run, jump, and slide to navigate through obstacles in different courses. Each cookie differs from another as they possess varied skill levels and accompanying powers, making players want to constantly update their collection.

Plants vs. Zombie 2: It’s About Time

This game app serves as a sequel to the well-received Plants vs. Zombies app, consisting of the same tower defense style of gameplay. The original game app focuses on a homeowner (the player) planting various plants to keep herds of zombies from entering their home. Like the original, the sequel has the same general game play with the exception of the player and zombies being transplanted back in time with a time machine.

The game app starts in Ancient Egypt and players are given the task to defeat zombies in the historical setting before moving onto the next world/historical period. Similar to the game apps previously mentioned, new characters — in this case, plants — with varying boosts and powers become available as the player progresses through the game.

The strangely addictive quality of the app makes the infamous wait in the counseling office fly by with well-practiced finger tapping.
